Peter Kay to host Brit Awards
Comedian Peter Kay has said that he will host the thirtieth anniversary of the Brit Awards. The music awards show will go out next February and sources from the Brits say that Peter was the first choice for them and that they are now finalizing the deal. They said that they approached the star of Phoenix Nights a few weeks ago with the idea of him playing host and that he agreed to do so in the past week. The Brits source said that because it was the show’s thirtieth anniversary they need a big name who could appeal to all age groups.
Peter Kay will be the next in a long line of comedians who have hosted the show in the past. Ben Elton appeared two years in a row in 1997 and 1998. Frank Skinner put in a rather dismal effort as co-host with Zoe Ball in 2002 and Russell Brand was so successful with his performance in 2007 that he was quickly snapped up to host the MTV Video Music Awards which made his name in America.
As well as hosting the Brits Peter Kay has announced a live tour which will see him performing over four nights at the Manchester MEN Arena. He will be on stage from the twenty-seventh of April until the thirtieth. In reference to the fact that he will only be appearing in Manchester Peter Kay has called his ‘tour’ The Tour That Doesn’t Tour. Tickets went on sale recently, but demand was so high that the website crashed.
