Police missed chances to arrest the Night Stalker
It has been revealed that the Police missed two chances to take the Night Stalker into custody during their seventeen year investigation. Delroy Grant has now been arrested and charged with numerous crimes of sexual assault, rape and burglary. The Police apparently missed their first opportunity to apprehend the serial rapist when a Neighbourhood Watch member took down Mr. Grant’s car registration number because he thought that the driver was behaving suspiciously. A robbery in the neighbourhood fitted the description of previous robberies committed by the Night Stalker. However, on following up on the information supplied to them by the vigilant member of the public the police managed to call in on another man called Delroy Grant living in the area, take DNA samples and unsurprisingly delete him from their list of suspects.
The second blunder by the police came after a member of the public phoned in to say they recognized an e-fit of the suspect broadcast on the television. They said that they thought he was a man called Delroy Grant. Police then looked at their records and saw that Delroy Grant had already been eliminated as a suspect and decided not to pursue the line of enquiry.
These events took place in 1999 and the police have said that they will investigate the matter. A police spokesperson said that over such a long period of investigation there were inevitably going to be circumstances that should be learnt from. Grant has already been charged with twenty-two offences and the police are quizzing him about an additional 201. It is expected that Grant will be charged with further crimes.
