Thierry Henry agrees with idea of a replay

Soccer star Thierry Henry has said that he agrees that the fairest way to resolve the situation in which he handled the ball in order to secure a French victory over Ireland would be to replay the game. The footballer has admitted that he handled the ball during the match and footage of the game clearly shows him doing so. He has since apologized for the incident on twitter. He says that he feels embarrassed about the French win which saw the end of Ireland’s world cup dreams. He does however point out that his hand-ball had been unintentional and that it was simply the reaction to the speed of the game in the Irish penalty area.

Martin Hansson, the Swedish referee who missed Thierry Henry’s foul has said that although he was unable to comment on the game he hoped that everybody’s lives would go on including his own. Irish football legend Roy Keane has told those who are up in arms about the result to get over it. He continued by saying that it wasn’t so much Thierry Henry who was to blame but rather the shoddy Irish defense.

The Football Association of Ireland has had their request for a rematch denied and the French Football Federation have also said that they will not be submitting a request for a re-match. Irish demonstrators have been gathering outside the French Embassy in protest of the French victory. One Irish newspaper has also erected a poster of Thierry Henry outside Barcelona’s training ground with the words ‘I’m Sorry’ written on it.
