New Moon is Record Breaking Movie

The second installment of the “Twilight” saga, “New Moon”, was more than a huge hit for the weekend box office….it broke records! The film had already set the record for the highest sales for a midnight showing during its first screening, with $26.3 million, but it didn’t stop there.

“The Dark Knight”, which came out in July 2008, earned $67.2 million during just its first day in theaters. However, “New Moon” killed this by $5.5 million, with earnings of $72.7 million for Friday alone. The midnight showing sales for both of these films are added into these figures.

“New Moon” wasn’t able to beat “The Dark Knight’s” total weekend sales though. The vampire film had $140.7 million in sales, while the Batman movie holds the record of $158.4 million. However, “Spider Man 3″ holds the second best weekend sales with $151.1 million, which puts “New Moon” in third, replacing “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’s” $136 million.

There is certainty that the vampire, werewolf, human love triangle romance will make at least another $300 million at the box office. Some even think that it will make $600 million , which would break yet another other record held by “The Dark Knight” for total gross sales in North America.

All of these huge numbers come despite the inaccurately bad reviews from critics, who literally bash the film for being too much like the book from Stephanie Meyer’s series. However, Twi-hards (the nickname for the fans) are remaining true to their beloved story, buying up so many pre-sell tickets for the theater showings that the movie broke records there too!
