Susan Boyle’s Album to Break Records
Susan Boyle, the Scottish singer who has gained worldwide fame since her audition for “Britain’s Got Talent” in April, is set to have the biggest album in the UK this year, according to HMV on Monday. The singer’s debut “I Dreamed A Dream” album, which is the song she sang for the show’s audition, was released by Sony Music in Britain on Monday and will hit stores in the US today (Tuesday).
Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV, said Monday that Boyle’s album was on course for selling nearly 150,000 on just the first day of its sales, which includes pre-orders online. The company was also significantly revising its estimate for the total week of sales from the 300,000 they initially estimated to a higher figure much closer to 400,000, the spokesman continued. It was last December that “The Circus” album by Take That sold 432,490 copies during its debut week, he added, and this is the closest you can get to these projected sales over the year, so Boyle’s album is on track to be this year’s biggest and fastest-selling.
It is very likely that this will happen, as footage of Boyle’s performance on “Britain’s Got Talent” has been watched over 300 million times online. Plus, she has performed on television shows, as well as made interview appearances on talk shows both in the UK and US.
The 48-year-old has been driven by the death of her mother and a promise she made to make something out of her life. She has lived a rather quiet life in her home town, but has made her way into the worldwide spotlight over the last half year, changing her life forever. The best of luck to her on living her dream!
