Sudoku Burns Calories

According to new studies, Sudoku and similar word related puzzles could help burn more calories an hour than eating one biscuit in a sitting. Researchers are now saying that an hour of Sudoku, crosswords, or any other kind of brain-training challenge games could be a good way to stay fit.

Two hours’ of the brain being active in the way it is used doing such puzzles as Sudoku may allow avid Sudoku fans to indulge in that extra bag of Maltesers or crisps. However, the catch is that these activities will not burn enough calories to make the user lose any weight, but it may help keep them healthier.

According to Tim Forrester, the mental agility expert behind these new findings, every time we use out brains we require 0.1 calories per minute simply to function. Whilst doing a quiz or Sudoku puzzle requires 1.5 calories per minute. This is because the brain is comprised of so many neurons which require energy to communicate with one another in order to send signals to other areas of the body.

These neurons produce a certain chemical which takes those signals all around the body depending on the action. These signals require calories, glucose and oxygen in order to function, thus the more signals being sent (i.e. when doing a word puzzle), the more calories that get eliminated.

Essentially, the more the brain is used, the more the calories are that get burned. Anything that taxes or challenges your brain will effectively burn off extra calories past what is burned just for basic survival. Basically, it is centered around keeping the brain active, so that way it is using a lot of energy, and using a lot of energy burns calories.

So Sudoku lovers, and avid enthusiasts, pick up your pens or pencils and start playing away. Your next Sudoku game might burn more calories than you think, allowing for that extra treat or splurge which is especially nice during these holiday seasons.
