The Queen Visits Bermuda for 400th Anniversary

In an untraditional, yet uncanny new move, Bermuda greeted the Queen with a rose-tinted rug which was used to reflect the Island’s famous coloured beaches on the Atlantic paradise islands. The Queen looked overjoyed at the foregoing of the traditionally used bright red, and waved to locals as she arrived in the country.

Her Majesty is in Bermuda currently to help celebrate the island’s 400 years of British occupancy. It is also an anniversary for Her Majesty as well as it marks the 56th year mark to the day of the first time she, herself, visited the small island country in the Atlantic.

The Queen first visited Bermuda on November 24, 1953 when she toured all the British Commonwealth countries after her coronation ceremony five months prior. On this occassion, the Queen was greeted by Governor of Bermuda Sir Richard Gozney and the Premier Ewart Brown. The Queen flew into LF Wade International Airport.

Her Majesty was also joined by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as several senior dignitaries who took part in a Thanksgiving dinner later on that day. The service also honored the founding forefathers of Bermuda.

The royal couple toured the capital city of Hamilton and attended a cathedral service while riding in horse drawn open carriage. The events were scheduled to mimick the same ones which the Queen participated in back in 1953 when she toured the town whilst riding in a carriage.

Later on that day, the Duke was given a pair of Bermuda shorts in a formal presentation. Which were traditionally worn by the British military to suit the hot, humid climate of the islands. Today, they have been widely adopted by the locals who wear them with knee high socks, a tie, and sport jacket and are suitable for every occasion.

That evening, the royal couple attended a state dinner, where the Queen gave a toast and speech. The anniversary trip was up in the air last month after a diplomatic issue between Bermuda and Britain after four prior detainees from Guantanamo Bay arrived on the island.
