Nicolas Cage Lights Bath’s Annual Christmas Display
Nicolas Cage, an American superstar in Hollywood, but who resides in Bath, owning several properties in both Bath and Somerset, brought the community to a halt when he acted as the representative to switch on the town’s annual Christmas displays.
The award-winning actor was asked by a neighbor via a letter under his door, to perform the honerary task, and when asked he said that he was both “excited and privleged” to play a role in this community tradition.
The actor owns various pieces of land around Bath and Somerset and has resided in the region for several years. The local resident who placed the letter under his residence in the city has not been identified.
The crowd which came out for the lighting ceremony greeted the star with cheers and screams, and he graciously thanked the residents of Bath for allowing him to live peacefully in the community for years now.
He went on to wish the community a happy holiday season at both work and in family life, and lit the lights of Bath with a smile.
Due to the special guest, however, police authorities had to beef up security for the event. Scores of police patrols were sent out the lighting ceremony, and extra security marshals had to be brought in to help out. The crowd was so much larger this year, that several centre streets had to be closed on Thursday.
The ceremony also marked the opening of Bath’s Christmas Market which will showcase over 100 traditional wooden chalets. Last month, Nicolas Cage was also active in the local community when he visited the Bath’s Royal United Hospital in support of their new campaign to provide a new neo-natal ward.
