Jay-Z and The Strokes Top Isle of Wight Festival Lineup

It was announced on Monday that Jay-Z, who pleased the crowd of last year’s Glastonbury, will be headlining the Isle of Wight Festival next year. He is set to perform on Friday night of the event, while The Strokes, his fellow New Yorkers, will perform on Saturday. Other top artists performing at the festival include Squeeze, Blondie, Pink and Orbital.

Recently, Jay-Z’s eleventh album “The Blueprint 3″ reached number one status during its debut. This beat the record for having the most albums placed at number one on the charts, which was previously held by Elvis Presley with ten albums.

At last year’s Glastonbury, Noel Gallagher, who is part of band Oasis, objected to Jay-Z’s performance, saying that the festival has a history for playing guitar music. He added that having hip-hop at Glastonbury was just wrong. However, the masses attending the event were happy with the hip-hop/rapper’s performance.

As for The Strokes, they have recently been awarded with NME Album of the Decade for their debut “Is This It” album in 2001. Pink has been announced as a special guest to perform on Sunday night. Rocker group Blondie will be playing on Saturday, and Squeeze are set to perform on Thursday before the festival really begins. Also on Saturday, Orbital will headline the Big Top stage for the event.

John Giddings, the promoter for the Isle of Wight Festival, says that they’ve wanted The Strokes for the event ever since they heard their first album. Pink and Jay-Z are two of the best live performers he has ever seen, he continued, while Blondie speaks for themselves. He can’t wait, Giddings added.
