MySpace Music Streams Free Songs for UK
MySpace has launched is new music streaming service in the United Kingdom. The service, MySpace Music, allows users to stream content for free and is set to compete with other services that do the same, such as Last.FM, Spotfy and We7.
The launch was celebrated on Thursday night at London club Heaven. The revamped service has commissioned many celebrity playlists for the launch, which include Lady Gaga, the Vatican, Britney Spears and Katie Price.
The social networking site has about 13 million UK accounts and has been used as a place to find rising bands, as well as only a handful of streamed tracks by established bands. However, this new revamp will see that users get to stream a wider range of tracks with occasional adverts for funding. An ad-free version is available with a subscription, like many other services.
Plus, the site has gained the backing of major and independent labels, as well as support from Apple. Every song is connected to iTunes, which lets fans buy music with just a simply click.
MySpace Music president Courtney Holt says that he believes the website can become one of the most popular in the UK. It is the number one music website in America already, and since its launch in Australia and New Zealand, they have seen twice as many people as before using the site. This gives them plenty of reason to believe it will be a great addition for the UK as well, he said. Holt also added that the service is easy to use, providing audio, video, original content, a suite of artists, and programming into one package.
