Susan Boyle tops US Album Charts for 2nd Week
It was announced on Wednesday that Susan Boyle’s debut album, “I Dreamed A Dream”, has taken the top of the US album charts for the second consecutive week. The former “Britain’s Got Talent” reality show contestant turned into a worldwide singing sensation, selling another 527,000 copies for the week ending December 6. With the album sales put together, the new album has racked up 1.23 million in sales, becoming the 10th biggest selling album this year.
Boyle has been battling with Andrea Bocelli, whose “My Christmas” album has been number two on the chart for four out of the five weeks it has been released, selling 1.12 million to be his best-selling album since 2006. She also topped a new album release from R. Kelly, as well as albums from Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift.
It has truly amazed everyone that Boyle has become such a hit, both in the US and UK, where she also held the top spot on the album charts for the second week running. She is also taking number one on album charts in Canada, Ireland, Japan, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand, selling 5 million copies worldwide.
Aside from her debut album turning everyone’s heads, Susan Boyle will also be starring in her own one-hour special television program to be aired by TV Guide in the US and ITV1 in the UK. The show, “I Dreamed A Dream: The Susan Boyle Story”, is set to air on December 13. It will highlight the story of her successful journey - from living in a Scottish rural village to becoming a singing sensation overnight.
