Brits to Drink Almost 300 Million Pints of Alcohol During Holidays

According to research published by Drinkaware, Brits are expected to consume a total of 265 million pints of alcohol this holiday season. The alcohol awareness charity revealed that the estimated amounts of alcohol expected to be consumed by holiday partygoers would equally roughly the equivalent of 286 million glasses of mulled wine or 602 million shots of vodka.

The research reports published by Drinkaware explains that typically one of every seven adults in the UK drink more alcohol than they normally do during the Christmas holidays. An additional one in six reported that December was the only month where they felt they could drink without feeling guilty.

Drinkaware pulled Brits of drinking age all over the country, and nearly half answered on the survey that they would consume more than daily guidelines recommend. More than one in every three Brits indicated on the survey that they would be attending at least three Christmas parties this year.

Chris Sorek from Drinkaware said that during the holiday party season it is vital for people to keep track of how much alcohol they are consuming. He added that long term harmful drinking affects last much longer than the Christmas holiday season.

Despite the large estimated number of alcohol units expected to be consumed, Drinkaware actually confessed that they believe the figure to be an underestimate in terms of how much alcohol will actually be consumed.

The latest numbers have been released by Drinkaware as part of a large campaign to catalogue a live examination of the UK’s drinking habits which aims to raise awareness about binge drinking and safe drinking habits.
