Cheryl Cole Condemns Campaign to Oust Joe as #1

Cheryl Cole is the latest in celebrity judges to reach out and criticise Rage Against the Machine’s bid to use their single Killing In the Name to topple Joe McElderry’s hit single The Climb out of the number one spot for the holiday charts.

The Girls Aloud judge, who helped McElderry with his vocal work on The Climb, a cover from Miley Cyrus’ hit CD, urged that she supported her protege and hoped that he would come out triumphant in the chart war raging on between the X Factor winner and the hit 90’s rock band.

She continued telling outlets that she would find it devastating if Joe lost the opportunity to have a number one single simply because Rage Against the Machine thought him not deserving. She added that every pop singing sensation hopeful has a dream to have a number one song.

The most recent numbers indicated that Rage’s single was leading in the chart battle in what is quickly becoming the most competitive chart war in the last decade. Even with the Wednesday release of McElderry’s album, the Killing In The Name single has still managed to hold out as number one so far.

Record company Sony, which is profiting from both singles, could see an upwards of 500,000 copies for each single sold by the end of the week. The chart battle has proven to be a profitable endeavor for them in the long run. But McElderry, 18, is slowly narrowing the margin between the two singles with his hit cover of Miley Cyrus’ The Climb just 40,000 copies behind.

Cheryl Cole is engaging in a degree of disingenuousity I didn’t think she was smart enough for. This campaign was not RATMs idea, and they didn’y even know about it until it was well under way. I’m sure Cheryl is well aware of this fact, but chooses not to admit this because she has a personal, big earning agenda.

This is part of a greater conflict between the big corporations on one side and genuine music lovers on the other. Tesco and Asda are stocking the X-Factor single in its physical form (which is very usual for a Christmas single) in a cynical attempt to win the battle for the corporations.

If you care about music, buy the Rage Against The machine single!

Hahah it’s not Rage who are directing this. It’s a private group of Facebook users.
It’s true that the band think it’s a good idea buy what band wouldn’t!
Mrs Cole seems to have shown herself to have completely missed the point and most of the details of the story!

Got something to say?
