Obama Health Bill Passes Through the Senate

A landmark health bill was passed through the Senate today. Under the new reform medical care will be increased to cover an additional 30 million Americans not currently covered under the current bill.

President Obama was quoted as saying that the ruling will bring to an end the century-long battle and would finally hold the insurance companies responsible for their end of things. Each of the 53 seated Democrats as well as two independents voted yes on the measure, in comparison to the 39 Republicans who voted negative against the bill.

The vote will allow negotiations to begin with the House of Representatives in January which are expected to be a bit tougher. The House of Representatives had previously approved their own version of the health reform back in November. However, their bill takes a different view on abortion, taxes, and an entirely new government lead insurance initiative.

The bill will not be sent back to President Obama until both the House and Senate have agreed on one unified bill, at which time it can be signed into law by the President. Republicans, however, have said they will do everything in their power to keep the bill from moving forward.

The bill is currently one of President Obama’s top legislative imperatives. If passed it could have the potential to be one of the largest healthcare shifts in the country since the last 40 years. The bill would see changes to health care coverage as well as end the policy which refuses health care to individuals with an existing medical condition.
