Celebrity Big Brother Profits to Go Towards Charity
This year’s Celebrity Big Brother was won by no other than Ulrika Jonsson. However, it has been announced that some of the profits from the hit UK reality TV show which pits housemates against one another will be out towards Comic Relief.
Channel 4 announced that it will donating 15p from every 50p earned on each call onto the voting line. Every time someone voted, namely, the broadcaster will give 15p for every 50p earned to the charity, Comic Relief.
The hit reality TV show which showcases several celebrities in a competition against one another is in its seventh series. The seventh series will kick off next year on January 3, and has been promoted with the popular tagline, “hell lies in others”.
Boy George, the shamed UK pop star, was asked to participate, but a High Court judge ruled earlier this week that it would be a violation of his Probation Service ban. The singer attempted to appeal the decision but again was denied permission to participate in the show.
Boy George was released out early on license after service just four months of a 15-month prison sentence. Boy George was sentenced for wrongfully detaining and imprisoning a male escort at his home. Channel 4 announced last August that this coming January would the final season of the show saying that the hit series had run its course naturally.
The TV show began on Channel 4 in 2000 and last January reigning winner Ulrika Jonnson, a TV presenter, won the series. Comic Relief has raised over £57m as of this year after hosting a one-night televised charity event for disadvantaged individuals in Africa as well as the UK.
