Sara Payne in latest fight for her life

Sara Payne the tireless campaigner who has been fighting for the protection of children from paedophiles for the past decade is now fighting for her life in hospital. Sara was admitted to hospital last Monday after complaining of a headache. Sara suffered a brain aneurism a year-and-a-half ago and it is suspected that her condition now has something to do with complications due to the earlier surgery. She was initially taken to St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey and then transferred to St. Georges in Tooting where she had originally been treated for her brain aneurism. She went under the surgeon’s knife on Tuesday but after appearing to stabilize she was again rushed into theatre on the Wednesday for an operation to combat a blood clot.

Fiona Payne has been by her sister’s side ever since she was admitted to hospital and has said that her sister will not give up without a fight. She says that Sara is conscious and can communicate with people by squeezing their hands. At one point she was asked repeatedly to try and open her eyes and managed to do so by using her fingers. Fiona has said that although she is trying to prepare herself for the worse she believes that her sister will be able to pull through.

Sara Payne was awarded the MBE for her efforts to get parents access to controlled information about paedophiles living in their area. She was also appointed the Government’s Victims Champion at the end of January this year.
