Nigerian Terrorist Charged for Attempted Plane Bombing, Security Increased
A Nigerian man has been charged with attempting to bomb a Northwest Airlines plane during a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas day. Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab was trying to ignite a new and sophisticated explosive on the plane as it approached landing at Detroit’s airport with 290 crew and passengers on board.
Apparently the 23-year-old was able to board a KLM flight from Lagos to Amsterdam and then pass through security checks at Schiphol airport while in transit to connect with a Northwest Airlines flight to Detroit. When the flight approached landing, he tried to light a new type of explosive device, but was unsuccessful.
Some of the passengers panicked when the man tried to light the bomb, but others took action and overwhelmed him. It’s reported that the Nigerian’s clothes caught fire and gave him serious burn wounds after the explosive popped and burst into flames. US Attorney General Eric Holder says that if this attempt to bomb an airliner had been successful, hundreds of innocent lives would have lost and more injured.
Since the incident questions about airport security have been raised, while they have increased their forces in both Europe and the US. Passengers are being warned to check-in with their airline early, as authorities everywhere have increased passenger checks and/or reinforced their measures of security for this busy travel period.
Peter King, House of Representatives Homeland Security committee, said that he understands the attacker to have terror connections with al-Qaeda. Officials at the White House and US politicians are considering the attempt a terrorist attack, and after being briefed on the incident while vacationing in Hawaii, President Barack Obama has ordered increased security measures.

”No Nigerian would blow up himself for anything” He probably got into an ARABIA clique and cldn’t get out…..I think wot he did was expose himself to get the US protection from wot he got himself into.
Who would have thought that a fellow nigerian like myself would have such”DEMONIC MIND” to bomb a plane having over 250 crew and passenger. Over the years Nigeria has been viewed as a corrupt country, now i wonder how it (i.e Nigeria)will be viewed.
