No More Tyra Show

Tyra Banks gave the nation a shock on Monday when she announced that “The Tyra Show” will be ending in the spring of next year. The 36-year-old announced the decision in a post on her official website, saying that the current 5th season of the Emmy-award winning daytime talk show on CW will be the last. Banks continued that she has loved having fun going to viewers’ hair salons, living rooms and bedrooms over the last 5 years.

However, the former supermodel will not be completely leaving viewers’ sights, as she also posted that she wants to reach more women and young girls to help everyone feel as fierce as they really are. This will come as she plans to launch her own production company in New York, Bankable Studios. She says she is excited about the prospect of filming movies, but isn’t able to reveal details yet.

Banks’ show has been used to promote issues among women, mostly in regard to body image and how the media perceives how women are suppose to look. She has done some surprising things to show women that they should love themselves they way they are and live healthy lives. Banks posed in her underwear with a group of women in Union Square this past August to promote the “rocking what you’ve got” campaign of her show. Then a month later she removed her weave to appear on the show with her real hair exposed.

This won’t be end of Banks’ television appearances though, as she is hosting the 14th season of “America’s Next Top Model”, which will air on CW in February. She will also continue producing “True Beauty”, a reality competition series that was started in January 2009 in which contestants are judged on their inner beauty.
