Obama says Christmas Day Terrorist Plotters will be Found as Al-Qaeda Calims Responsibility

US President Obama has given his first public remark on the attempted bombing of a Northwest Airlines jetliner bound for Detroit on Christmas Day, for which interrupted his Hawaiian holiday. He says that they will not rest until everyone responsible for the attack is found.

His statement continued that, although they don’t have all the details yet, those who plotted the attack must know that the country will do more than toughen their security. Obama also said that they will continue using all of their national power to disrupt, dismantle and defeat the extremists who threaten the US, no matter where they are.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian, has been charged with attempted suicide bombing and has been revealed as one of the some 550,000 on the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment database, which doesn’t automatically require extra airport screening. However, this discovery has prompted Obama to order a thorough review of the watch list, while airports around the world are increasing security.

Abdulmutallab was a student at the University College London and was banned from the UK and put on a watch list earlier this year. He has also been connected with an al-Qaeda group, who has since claimed responsibility for the bombing action. Obama may not have to look far for the plotters, as the Arabian Peninsula-based group, says that they did it as retaliation on the US for operating against the group in Yemen.

Furthermore, reports emerged that Abdulmutallab told the FBI that more people are in Yemen just like him and are ready to take action against the US in the near future. This appears to be no threat, as only four days before the attack, a video was posted on extremists websites featuring a militant of al-Qaeda in Yemen saying that they are carrying a bomb to hit God’s enemies.
