Obama Administration Defends Against Cheney and GOP
On Wednesday, the political war over the attempted terrorist bombing of a US airplane on Christmas Day wasn’t calming down. Leaders of both parties increased their attacks, pointing fingers at who’s to blame.
Former vice president Dick Cheney and the GOP took to the offensive on President Obama’s leadership over national security. They believe that Obama is pretending that the US isn’t at war with terrorists, therefore making Americans less safe. He then continued to criticize the President, saying that not wanting to admit that the country is at war doesn’t fit with the views he brought to the Oval Office or what seems to be his goal and the restructuring of American society.
It didn’t take long for Democratic leaders and Obama’s top aides to lash back at Cheney and the GOP. They said that President Obama is the one who refocused the country’s efforts in Afghanistan after drifting for 7 years, blaming mostly Cheney for failing to stay focused on the fight against al-Qaeda as they went to war with Iraq.
GOP leaders are portraying Obama as weak when it comes to national security, as it took him three days to respond to the failed attack due to vacationing in Hawaii. They believe he should have responded sooner. However, Democrats are pointing out that this is a double standard, as it took President Bush almost a week before he responded to the failed shoe bomber’s attack in 2001 due to vacationing in Texas.
The whole political war thing is absolutely ridiculous! All of them are using anything they can for personal benefit and to beat down each other. If they are so concerned with the lives of Americans, then they should be focused on security and protecting the people instead of pointing fingers at each other like children.
