Google Nexus One to Challenge Apple iPhone

Google is set to launch their highly anticipated Nexus One smartphone in California today. The phone is the company’s first and is designed, being marketed and only sold by them. The Nexus One is expected to be wider and slimmer than the market’s leading iPhone from Apple, as well as faster than the Fortune 500 by Motorola. It will also feature a virtual keyboard and touchscreen, running on Google’s Android operating system with a high speed processor.

The leading search provider hasn’t said very much about the Nexus One since trying the phone out on their employees during December. However, they are anticipated to reveal plans for the phone during an Android press conference in California.

Early predictions of the phone suggest that its camera will be better than the iPhone’s and will feature a flash. It’s slated to win the battery life battle as well, as it can hold a full charge for a minimum of 24 hours. The Nexus One will also feature an accelerometer, proximity sensor and light sensor too. However, Google will only be able to offer 16,000 applications, compared to the 100,000 offered by Apple for the iPhone. Users won’t be able to connect to Apple’s iTunes online music library either.

So how much will it cost? The rumor is $530 unlocked or $180 through a two-year lock-in agreement with T-Mobile. There are many people excited about this new phone, so let’s hope it will hold up to the buzz it has already been getting and give iPhone and other smartphones a run for their money.
