Dubai Tower is World’s Tallest Building

The Burj Dubai, which was renamed Burj Khalifa, was opened on Monday in a bitter sweet celebration. The building broke the world record for the tallest building, revealing an 828 meter height (2,717 feet) for the first time, which is about the height of both the World Trade Center towers stacked atop each other (if they still stood). However, the opening comes amid a global recession that has nearly collapsed the country’s real estate market.

The record sized building has 169 storeys and its height more than crushes the previous tallest building, which was the 508 meter tower 101 in Taipei. It’s also crushed the world record for the tallest man made structure, which was held by the 629 meter KVLY-TV mast located in North Dakota, US.

The £925 million ($1.5 billion) structure features the world’s biggest water fountain, the highest occupied floor in the world at 160 storeys, as well as the highest swimming pool in the air on the 76th floor at 260 meters high. Other than that, the building features a mosque, apartments, a hotel, business offices, restaurants and a night club.

This is definitely an achievement for Dubai that will attract tourists from all around. Travelers will want to watch the sunset twice simply by visiting the building, as it is so high - first at its base and then at the viewing platform on the 124th floor, which is only a minute’s ride up and is the highest observation deck in the world. Thousands have applauded the magnificence of the Burj Khalifa from afar, and there’s is no doubt their breath will be taken away when they see it in real life on their next visit to Dubai.
