Artie Lange Stabs Himself 9 Times in Attempted Suicide, Howard Stern Upset

Artie Lange, the former sidekick to Howard Stern, tried to kill himself on Saturday. Over the weekend, the troubled comic used a 13 inch kitchen knife to stab himself 9 times while at his New Jersey apartment. The comedian’s mother called 911 at 9:36am after finding him bleeding on the floor. When paramedics arrived, Lange was unconscious and had 9 self-inflicted stab wounds. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center.

Police are calling this event an attempted suicide and don’t plan to investigate what happened any further. They also wouldn’t reveal Lange’s whereabouts on Thursday or his condition.

Lange has been a member of The Howard Stern Show since 2001 and has openly talked about a prior suicide attempt, bouts of depression, battles with addiction to heroin and sadness over an accident that paralyzed and later killed his dad. Since the middle of December, he has been missed on the Stern show.

Page Six was the first to report the news, and Stern openly spoke of his displeasure with the person that revealed the story. On his show, he said that he was hoping the news wouldn’t come out and didn’t even want to read it. He said that he’s both angry and sad about it, with most of his anger toward whoever leaked the details.

Stern continued saying that this is a family matter, adding that everyone has demons - he just didn’t know how deep Lange’s went. He also said that everyone should remember Lange as the great man he is and only wishes his colleague well.
