Legoland Florida Coming 2011 to be World’s Biggest

Legoland is taking their theme park to Central Florida after British parent company Merlin Entertainment bought Cypress Gardens theme park in Winter Haven for about $22 million. The new park is set to open in 2011 and be the biggest Legoland in the world.

The new Legoland will be situated only about 40 miles away from Disney World and about an hour south of Orlando. It will sit on a 145-acre property and will aim at children between the ages of 2 and 12 years old. The new addition will also be the 5th park opened in the world, with 50 rides, shows and other attractions. The other Legoland parks operated by Merlin are located in Britain, Germany, Denmark and California.

Aside from just the park though, Merlin is planning a multimillion dollar expansion of the property to make it a multi-day resort. It will promise hotels and attractions in addition to its other holdings, which will include Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, London Eye Ferris Wheel and SeaLife Aquarium. They will also include Miniland, which will feature depictions of famous Florida landmarks made of Legos.

Florida is already one of the most visited places for families on vacation, and the addition of a Legoland - not to mention it being the biggest yet - only gives families a reason to go there more. Florida is already home to the biggest Disney park in the world, as well as Universal Orlando, which features two theme parks - Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Now no one will be able to go wrong with a vacation in the Sunshine State.
