Brittany Murphy’s Death Caused by Pneumonia Complications
The coroner’s office in LA says that Brittany Murphy’s cause of death was pneumonia, which was complicated by multiple drug intoxication and severe anemia caused by an iron deficiency. Officials said that her drug intake is what caused her to go into cardiac arrest so suddenly, and her death has been ruled an accident. However, the official and completed autopsy report won’t be issued for about another 2 weeks.
Murphy went into cardiac arrest on December 20 at her home in Hollywood Hills after taking a combination of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Firefighters were called and responded at about 8am and unsuccessfully tried to revive her on the way to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was then pronounced dead only about 2 hours later.
Sources are now saying that Murphy’s death could have been avoided. if only she had gotten to the hospital in time. If she had seen a doctor instead of treating herself, her death could have been prevented. She was taking a prescription for cramps, as well as over-the-counter medicines like cough syrup for, what they thought was, laryngitis and a cold. The combination of medicines is what pushed her over the limit, but it was the anemia and pneumonia that were the real issues.
Ed Winter, the assistant chief at the coroner’s office, said that her death was preventable. Murphy planned to see a doctor, but passed before that, he continued. In this case, we have a person who had pneumonia and anemia and was trying to treat herself rather than get medical treatment, he added. Craig Harvey, the chief investigator, said that although Murphy’s death could’ve been avoided, she wasn’t the healthiest person at only 5′3” and 115lbs.
