Super Bowl Ads Win Big
Sunday night’s Super Bowl XLIV was a great night for laughs as ads rolled by between plays in the game, and it was a good thing that most of the ads went for laughs rather than sex, as more people wanted to see something funny. This is clearly shown in polls after the game that named Bud Light, Doritos and Snickers the kings of the night. All of these companies focused their ads on slapstick humor, and they won over the crowd.
A personal favorite of the Bud Light ads was the one where all the men were talking in electronically distorted voices. The company also had one where a house was built out of beer cans. Most people liked the Doritos commercial where a son tells his mom’s date to watch himself. Another Doritos favorite was the dog that escapes from an electric bark collar, which prevented him from eating the chips - the owner ends up wearing the collar.
Probably the best ad out of all of them was for Snickers. It featured Abe Vigoda and Betty White in a rough football game. Both of the beloved and elderly actors ended up on their backs in the mud during the ad. Other top ads came from Audi, Google, Coke, Denny’s, Motorola and E-Trade.
Companies spend up to a $3 million on 30-second ads to air during the Super Bowl, so when they don’t do good, they stand the chance of losing a lot of money. However, these top ads may end up making their companies hundreds of millions. It’s all in a day’s work.
