Apple’s iPad TV Ad Debuts during Oscars

During the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night, Apple debuted a television ad for their new iPad device. According to reports, Steve Jobs also joined the stars in attending the event. For those that don’t know, Jobs use to be chairman of Pixar before the company was bought in 2006 by Disney. He is now on the board of directors at Disney.

In the television commercial, Apple announces that the iPad tablet device is set to launch on April 3 this year. They will, however, start taking pre-orders for the new ‘toy’ on March 12, but this will only be for the Wi-Fi enabled versions in the US. The 3G enabled versions won’t come out until later in April, and they will announce a pre-order date for this shortly.

The iPad advertisement used There Goes My Love, an upbeat song by The Blue Van, in the background. It was aired right after Disney and Pixar’s Up won Best Animated Film. It shows a man using the tablet device on his lap. He flips through various features that the iPad is capable of, including reading e-books, looking at photos, watching videos, as well as has a feature called Pages. The ad is styled in the same way that the iPhone and iPod’s commercials were for their television spots.

Millions of viewers were watching the Oscars on Sunday night, but that doesn’t mean they all saw this iPad ad. However, a vast majority did, which means that Apple will probably get a decent amount of pre-orders for the device.
