Actor Corey Haim Dead of Overdose

Former 1980s teen heartthrob Corey Haim was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning at about 2:15am (Pacific Time). The 38-year-old had been having flu-like symptoms and was taking a combination of medications, so it is thought he died from an overdose of drugs. However, there will be an autopsy performed, for which the toxicology results won’t come in for at least a month, to determine the specific cause of death.

Haim had not been feeling well for two days. Then in the middle of the night (Tuesday-Wednesday) he was walking around his room and collapsed to his knees. He shared an apartment with his mother, and she heard the commotion, checked on him and helped him back to bed. However, Haim became unresponsive so she called the paramedics, which was at about 1am. He was taken to the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after.

It’s no secret that Haim had problems with drugs throughout his life, but Mark Heaslip, his agent, says that he hadn’t been using and doesn’t think this had anything to do will illicit drugs. Even authorities didn’t find any in his apartment. Heaslip thinks that his death is the result of the combination of prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and other medications that he was taking for his sobriety program. This tragedy has shaken Haim’s mother, the agent added, as his death was very unexpected.

Haim was most well known for his role of a teen whose brother turned into a vampire in the 1987 movie The Lost Boys. He appeared beside Corey Feldman, whom he became very good friends with. They filmed 8 other movies together, as well as The Two Coreys television series on A&E in 2007, which was canceled the year after.
