New Study Shows Definite Correlation Between Internet and Depression

Psychologists are now speaking out against the abundant use of the internet saying that there is a definitive correlation between amount of time spent blogging or surfing the web and moderate to severe depression.

A research team based in the UK have conducted research on levels of happiness in relation to amount of time spent online. During the research it came out that a small group being tested were not only addicted to the internet, but also severely depressed.

The study results, however, were not conclusive as to which one was causing the other. Namely, is the internet causing depression or are individuals suffering from depression more drawn to excessive amounts of time on the internet.

The research team’s leader, Dr Catriona Morrison, who is based at the University of Leeds’ Institute of Psychological Sciences, says that although the internet plays a large role in today’s modern society there are several negative aspects to the web as well.

Overall the research shows that there is a large correlation between amount of time spent surfing the web and high levels of depression. Dr Morrison claims that one could learn the level of depression of an individual simply by observing how much time they spend online.
