Apple Removes 5,000 Applications from Apps Store
Apple managed to alienate several of their software developers when they made the decision to pull almost 5,000 applications from the Apple app store. The move comes in the wake of parental complaints launched against the company saying apps had too much sexually explicit content.
Larger application designers which consistently provide Apple with apps also lodged complaints stating that the apps were unnecessary, overtly sexual, and crowding the App store. The decision was made to remove them and Apple has sent emails out to numerous companies detailing the new guidelines for apps.
One such application which will not meet the new criteria is Wobble iBoobs, which allowed users to shake the boobs and other body parts of a model outfitted in a bikini. However, some apps which are not necessarily sexual are falling victim to the new guidelines. Such as companies which sell clothing, including bikinis, online.
Gerard Dennis, managing director at Simply Beach, said that models wearing bikinis which are for sale have also been banned even though it is not really in the spirit of the application ban. He added that his store’s images are not really what men will be downloading to leer over.
Apple reported that roughly 3% of the applications have been removed due to the new guidelines as they were deemed unacceptable for children to view. Other game and application designers are speaking out saying that little can be done to change Apple’s minds as the company is constantly striving to be viewed as clean, family-friendly brand.
