Sony Ericsson introduces motion sensing mobile phone
June 21, 2008
Sony Ericsson has launched a motion sensing mobile phone that allows gamers to play games by flicking a wrist or swinging an arm.
The F305 phone aims to work on the same principle as the Nintendo Wii and Sony Ericsson hopes it will prove just as popular.
The price has not yet been announced. The F305 will have three built in games which will be Bowling, Bass Fishing and Jockey. All of these games will take advantage of the motion sensing feature of the phone. More games will then be available to download off the internet.
Sony Ericsson have been trying to lure customers back by introducing phones with added extras. They re-launched the Walkman brand as a phone in competition against Apple’s iPod.
This year Sony Ericsson, which is a joint venture between the Japanese electronics group and the telecoms manufacturer from Sweden, dropped behind rivals LG in the table of mobile phone manufacturers and their first quarter earnings almost halved to €133 million (£105 million).
“Gaming is no longer something you do on your own. Its about having fun with your friends and interacting with the game,” said Sven Totté, head of product marketing at Sony Ericsson. “We have used motion sensor technology before in our phones and integrating it into game play is a natural progression.”
The manufacturing also says that the phone boast’s stereo speakers, games controls, and has a battery intended to support eight hours of game play.
