Kier Group Buys Pure Buildings and Pure Recycling

Kier Group has expanded their wast recycling business in an effort to offset a slowdown in construction spending in the future. The company has bought Pure Recycling Warwick for £7 million. The site is still being constructed, but it will be one of the biggest material recycling facilities in the country with the ability to process 25 tonnes of waster per hour when it is completed in March next year.

The firm also bought Pure Buildings, which is also part of the Warwick site. Kier Group will pay Pure Recycling and Nicholas and Jodie Spencer, who own Pure Buildings, an immediate payment of £2 million. The other £5.1 million will be paid when the site is completed.

Paul Sheffield, the chief executive of Kier Group, said that they are delighted with the acquisitions, as they will strengthen their waste management and recycling business. The group will be well positioned to take advantage of market growth in this sector in the future, he continued. They particularly look forward to working close with councils and authorities in helping them achieve recycling targets, he added.

Meanwhile, Tewkesbury Borough Council is said to have awarded Pure Recycling with a recycling contract worth £1.86 million. This agreement will see the company process combined dry recyclables from 36,000 homes, including plastic bottles, mixed glass, aluminum and steel cans, cardboard, and paper. The contract also requires a waste transfer station and transportation of materials to a recycling facility, which will both be subcontracted. The MRF services will also be subcontracted until January next year.
