Google Bans Windows due to Security
According to reports, Google has banned their employees from using the Microsoft Windows operating system on company computers. Sources say that this move is a security measure, as the company believes the Linux and Apple OSX operating systems are more secure for their more than 10,000 workers to use. It is also said that Google will push their workers to use the company’s own Chrome web browser.
The decision to block Windows comes after the company’s Chinese operation was hacked in January. Google revealed that they were a victim of a highly sophisticated and targeted attack, which involved the hacking of Gmail accounts belonging to human rights activists in China. The company’s response was to pull their operation from the country if they weren’t allowed to operate uncensored. The Chinese government denies having any involvement in the attacks and said that they found a weakness in the Internet Explorer web browser from Microsoft.
One employee says that they aren’t using the operating system anymore due to security, while another says that many workers have been moved from PCs to Mac computers since the hacking. It’s also been reported that workers who still want to use Windows have to get clearance from senior management.
Google and Microsoft become more of rivals every year as they go head-to-head in email offerings, search engines and operating systems. Microsoft launched Bing, its search engine, earlier this year in an attempt to take some of Google’s search traffic. So even though the ban may be mostly due to security concerns, it’s certain that at least a little to do with it is that Google doesn’t want its staff to use a rival’s products.

The author may want to enroll in a remedial writing class. Google is singular, however, the author was able to present the corporation as both singualr and plural.
“. . . Linux and Apple OSX (Operating System 10) operating systems . . . .” is simply poor writing unless Apple has an operating system operating system.
