Enterprise Holdings to Cut Energy Use and Costs

Enterprise Holdings is the largest and most comprehensive provider of car hire in North America, and they have announced plans to reduce both energy usage and costs by 20% over the next 5 years. The goal will be achieved through 20/20 Vision, a new sustainability initiative.

The car hire company anticipates to cut the environmental impact of their airport facilities and neighborhood branches through regional subsidiaries, as well as through an upfront investment in energy-saving technologies and conservation practices. Enterprise operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands, and they expected to cut energy costs by $50 million.

Lee Broughton, the director of sustainability for Enterprise Holdings, says that the 20/20 Vision aligns the interests of their partners, employees and customers with the business’s long-term interests by expanding their commitment to the environment on every level of their operations. Cutting their use of energy and consumption of national resources will lessen their impact on the environment and save money to be sure the business stays sustainable, he added.

Recommendations used in the 20/20 Vision were developed by the Chairman’s Task Force on Sustainability, a department of the company. They started piloting the initiative in select markets last year and will now roll out the successful plan across the entire company.

An assessment of the company’s operations is being done to identify where they can make significant and positive changes, while operations managers are developing cost-reducing and energy-saving goals. Enterprise Holdings will start off with small changes, like using more energy-efficient lighting at their over 7,600 locations and headquarters. This will lead to a dramatic fall in energy usage and costs.
