Spirit Airlines Resumes Services
After a 5-day strike by pilots, Spirit Airlines announced on Thursday that they would start operating services again today. This comes after management and pilots were able to agree on a tentative pact on Wednesday that would end the strike, according to Captain Sean Creed, the Air Line Pilots Association’s head of the Spirit unit. He continued that they will work with the carrier to draft a return-to-work accord.
Creed also said that he believes their people will be more than willing to help the company in getting its operations back in order and on a normal schedule as soon as possible. Due to the strike, Spirit Airlines had to cancel its Thursday flights before the deal was made, but the airline said that they would be able to operate 20 services.
Although the carrier has promised to begin operations again today, travelers shouldn’t expect business to immediately return to normal. Spirit Airlines may have a hard time resuming operations and getting the 96,000 passengers whose flights were canceled to their destinations. The airline’s fleet has been left where the pilots were when the industrial action started on Saturday morning, so they aren’t where they are suppose to be. This will take some time for them to correct - possibly several days.
However, Spirit Airlines is trying to put the walkout behind them. Chief executive Ben Baldanza says that the company apologizes for the canceled flights, but they did the best they could to re-accommodate travelers. He added that they tried to arrange other flights where they could.
