Asda Promotes the World Cup with a Game
Asda, one of the top supermarket chains in the UK, is looking to get a piece of the World Cup craze by launching a football advergame, “Make A Save”. The game has been designed by Matmi, the digital marketing firm. The two companies have worked together before on the release of the retailer’s first advergame through the agency a couple years ago.
The “Make A Save” football-themed viral game was released on Friday and is being sent out across gaming and social networks. It boasts a Facebook Connect link to boost the reach and speed of its viral capabilities.
The game challenges the player to take up a position in the net and save shots from strikers. The player will then progress through various levels of difficulty as their skill increases. With every successfully completed level, the virtual player taps his/her bottom to celebrate.
The game features a worldwide high score table, as well as a special match day offer from Asda. Players can also enjoy replacing the football in the game with different items, like toys and food.
Asda head of marketing for digital and financial services Trevor Field said that they want the game to be fun and interactive. They want to show that every save they make, their customers are given that back by lowering prices for the products they buy every week, he continued. “Make A Save” seemed like the perfect way to get customers involved in sports during the summer, he added, as more and more people are playing games online and sharing information through social networks.
