JetBlue Airways Adds Food to Longer Flights
JetBlue Airways announced on Tuesday that they will be adding snack boxes for passengers to buy during long-haul flights. This will be an addition to their existing free snacks. The 5 snack boxes are much like those that Unite Airlines uses on their flights.
These new buy-on-board snacks will be available on all flights longer than 3 hours and 45 minutes that are operated by A320 planes. They will include one completely kosher selection, will all be trans fat free and are set to sell for £6 each.
The decision to offer the new selections is JetBlue Airways’ response to customer demand for food to supplement the free snacks offered on longer flights. The airline previously run this offering last year as a pilot program, which was successful.
The snack boxes include a range of shelf stable items that are themed by palate. There is one called “Wake Up”, which is a morning-themed box that includes fruit, a croissant, almond butter, jam, crackers and milk. Another one is the “Cheer Up” box, which is themed to go with the carrier’s selection of wine, featuring 3 cheeses, crackers and dried fruit. JetBlue Airways will also continue to offer their free snacks, which include Stauffers Animal Crackers, Chifles Plantain Chips, Terra Blues Chops, Linden’s Chocolate Chippers and more on all flights.
Selling snack boxes or meals on longer flights has become a standard for US airlines, including Delta Air Lines and US Airways. By fall this year, Hawaiian Airlines will be the only major domestic airline in the US to offer free meals to coach passengers on most domestic services.
