Moving on to Wimbledon Quarter-finals

The 4th round of the Wimbledon Championships has passed, and the quarterfinals will start today. There are some huge names that have made it through and some huge names that didn’t quite make the cut this year.

It’s much easier to start out with who won’t be going to the quarterfinals - American Any Roddick - who was the biggest casualty from the matches on Monday. He lost to Taiwanese Lu Yen-hsun after 5 sets - 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 7-9.

There is no surprise, however, at the other names to be seen during the quarterfinals. This includes Roger Federer, the top seed, who is trying for his 7th Wimbledon title. On Monday, he sealed his spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win against Austrian Jurgen Melzer. After the win, Federer said that he felt great and knew it would be a tough match. He found his range, played well and is very happy with how he played, he added.

Rafael Nadal, the champion of Wimbledon in 2008, was able to take out French Paul Henri Mathieu 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals. This came despite a recurring injury giving him some trouble during his first few matches. Meanwhile, he has suggested that he won’t be able to go to the Davis Cup next month due to his continued recovery.

Another Andy Murray, who beat Sam Querrey on Monday 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. After the match, Murray said that the game was very good. He had his chances at the end of the first set and nicked it away from Querry, he continued. Now he will be French Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s opponent in the quarterfinals.

Serena Williams and Venus Williams, who are known as the Williams Sisters, will also be moving on to the quarterfinals. Serena achieved a victory over Maria Sharapova 7-6 6-4, while Venus scored a 6-4 7-6 over Australian Jarmila Groth.

Kim Clijsters also defeated Justine Henin on Monday 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 to move on to the quarterfinals. She will be playing Russian Vera Zvonareva during the round.
