United Airlines Diverts Flight due to Passenger Disruption
On Tuesday night, a United Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Chicago O’Hare International Airport had to be diverted to Denver International Airport instead due to a disruptive passenger on board. The plane was met by local police and federal authorities for the man to be taken off the aircraft.
Mike Trevino, a spokesman for the carrier, confirmed the incident. The flight made the landing in Denver at 8:49pm, and the disruptive passenger was taken off the plane to meet with representatives for the FBI and Denver Police, he continued. FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates confirmed that the unidentified passenger was arrested when the plane landed, adding that his name would be released after he is officially charged.
The other passengers were also taken off the plane for a short period, he added, but they were able to re-board and continued their journey to Chicago without incident, landing safely at 2:26am. Trevino also said that it’s unclear what the passenger was doing on the flight to make the pilot divert the plane. However, there was no fire, smoke or explosions, while no one was hurt either.
On Wednesday afternoon, it emerged that the FBI doesn’t expect to file charges on the disruptive passenger, according to spokeswoman Kathy Wright. She says that she doesn’t have anymore information about the issue. The man’s name still wasn’t identified.
The last thing that airlines need is for passengers to get disruptive on flights. The aviation industry has suffered enough over the last couple years due to the recession, which cause a decline in demand. It doesn’t need passengers scaring travelers away from flying.
