Car Hire Companies Increase Child Seat Prices
According to a report, parents that travel with young children should take their own child seats in order to save money on car rentals, as some car hire companies have raised the price of car seats by 500% in comparison to their rivals. The differences between rival firms can be up to £60, which means that a child seat could cost up to £70 for a week.
In a price comparison report by Travelsupermarket.com, a child seat from Europcar at Palma Airport is priced at £62.32 for a week. However, it only costs £11.62 if the child seat is rented through Expedia at the same airport. It has also been discovered that the most expensive cities in Spain to rent a child seat in are Alicante, Malaga and Majorca, while the cheapest were found at Nice Cote d’Azur Airport in France.
Travelsupermarket.com travel expert Bob Atkinson says that traveling to other another country for a holiday can be costly after factoring in charges for airlines to carry luggage. Prices vary so much between car hire companies, so it’s important that families factor add-ons into their travel budget, he continued. Those who don’t may end up paying significantly more, he added.
The bottom line is that families should take their own child seat to just avoid the cost altogether. Those who plan to travel by air will need to make sure that their airline will allow them to take a car seat for free. Atkinson noted that most carriers allow this; however, Aer Lingus, bmi, bmibaby and Ryanair have been found to charge a fee for taking a child seat.
