Body Found on Nas Air Flight Identified
A body was found inside the wheel bay of a Nas Air jet over the weekend when it landed at Riyadh Airport. It has taken until Monday for authorities to identify the man, 20-year-old Lebanese Firas Haidar, according to a senior security official. Saudi authorities were able to identify him by sending out photographs.
According to reports, passengers saw a man running for the aircraft while it was taking off at Beirut airport on Saturday. They said that he stumbled, but then continued the pursuit. It’s has been said (not confirmed) that the crew and passengers told the pilot, but he took off anyway. The flight then landed in Riyadh just after midnight on Sunday morning. While being checked by maintenance workers, Haidar’s body was found.
The senior security official says that Haidar appeared to have cut the barbed wire fence surrounding the runway. He said that they found a cap, metal cutters and 2 cigarettes without filters on the tarmac, and they believe that the cigarette filters were used as ear plugs.
It has been speculated that Haidar may have been on drugs or mentally unstable, but his family’s lawyer has denied these reports. Mohammed Shoukair said that he knew Haidar personally, calling him a decent and very stable man. He was a student at a technical university and just took his exams, he continued. Haidar wanted to find work in another country to help his family, explained Shoukair, which is the main reason he stowed away on the aircraft. He added that the family is still waiting for the DNA results.
