Pierrick Fedrigo Wins Stage 16 of Tour

Stage 16 of the Tour de France has been won by Pierrick Fedrigo, who was able to cross the finish line first as part of a pack that included Sandy Casar, Ruben Plaza Molina, Damiano Cunego, Christopher Horner, Lance Armstrong, Jurgen Van De Walle and Christophe Moreau, who all crossed in that order. This is the 3rd consecutive stage victory for a French rider and the 6th for this tour.

This now makes Fedrigo’s 25th stage win in his Tour de France career. He said after the race that he would have been very disappointed if the Tour finished without him getting into a position to play to win. He was afraid of not being able to succeed, he continued, explaining that the Tour goes by so quick, and he hadn’t answered the call he gave himself. He added that Armstrong had told him before that he wouldn’t cooperate with him since he considered Fedrigo the fastest group.

Fedrigo also said that the day was beautiful and felt like it was his. His family and fans were there, he added.

As for the yellow jersey, Alberto Contador was able to hold on to first place overall by staying only 8 seconds ahead of Any Schleck. If Schleck is to have a chance at winning the Tour, he will have to gain 1 minute and 30 seconds over Contador. This is because the the penultimate stage is on Saturday, which Contador excels at.
