Europcar Introduces UK Roadside Gastro Guide

According to a recent Europcar survey, 95% of British motorists say that the choice, quality and price of roadside food is unacceptable, while about 80% say they prefer to go hungry instead of take advantage of the selection that service stations and cafes offer. The British leading car hire firm has joined forces with the Guild of Food Writers to celebrate local eateries through a free downloadable Roadside Gastro Guide.

This guide provides a glimpse into the delights secretly hidden in the knowledge of authors Anthony Worrall Thompson and Valentine Warner, who reveal 20 of the best undiscovered eateries. Included are places located from the Dorset coast to the Scottish Highlands, covering all inns, tea shops and stately homes that specialize in home cooking. The guide also offers character, decor, views and friendly services, which shows that detouring a short bit from the main road can be very rewarding.

Europcar spokeswoman Catriona Kempston said that they are always looking for new ways for drivers to get the most pleasure from their driving experience. This is whether they are delivering a car to their door or helping them avoid overpriced pies and soggy chips, she added.

Guild of Food Writers savour editor Richard Ehrlich said that catering on motorways may be the pits most of the time, but great food can be found just off most main roads with short detours. The places in the guide covers a great variety of locations across the country, he explained, including little gems and celebrated restaurants. They hope to send the message that motorists don’t have to give up good food just because they are in a car, he continued. They need to know where to look, he added, and this free downloadable copy of the Roadside Gastro Guide is perfect to start with.
