Newborn Baby Found at Lincolnshire Greenstar Recycling Plant

Police are still desperate to find the mother of a newborn baby that was found in a black bin liner at a Lincolnshire recycling plant on October 15. Jacob, the baby boy, was discovered by staff at an Addlethorpe facility, Greenstar.

The plant workers had been sorting waste that was collected by council binmen throughout the town. A coroner found that the infant could have died during birth, and detectives have issued a new appeal 10 months later to help find the woman who born the little boy.

Detective Inspector Andy Wardell, leading the case, said that one of the plant’s staff was searching through a black bin liner that had another bag inside. When he opened the second bag, he saw the baby inside, with the umbilical cord unprofessionally cut, he continued.

Dr. Elizabeth Turk said that the baby had a pair of jogging bottoms around his neck, which is consistent with an unprofessional attempt to help with delivery. However, she isn’t sure what the cause of death was, though in her opinion, the baby died in the birth canal or directly after birth.

Wardell explained that the DNA of the mother was taken from blood samples. However, they haven’t found a match, even after checking across the UK and mainland Europe. They also checked with social services children’s centres, schools and midwives.

Wardell also said that they could be looking for a mother of only 11-13 years old. They put out a national alert, but this has been unsuccessful, he confirmed, adding that the bin liner could have been left anyone - a local or a holidaymaker.
