Southwest Airlines Stewardess Takes Baby after Mother Slaps Her
A Southwest Airlines flight attendant took a baby away from its mother on Monday after the mother slapped the 13-month girl on a flight, it’s been reported. Beverly McCurley, the stewardess, told police that she got involved after passengers complained about the mother hitting her daughter in the face to keep her from crying.
McCurley found the parents in a furious fight and saw the mother, Lee Ann Cid, hit the little girl in the face with an open hand. The mother looked agitated with the baby, and the father continued yelling at his wife to shut up because of the screaming girl.
However, Southwest Airlines representative Whitney Eichinger offered a different story, denying that McCurley took the child from her parents on the flight. Instead, she asked the family if they wanted her bounce the little girl for them to help calm her, the spokeswoman continued. The parents were having an altercation, and the 13-moth-old was upset, so the flight attendant offered to hold the child, which is something they do from time to time to soothe babies, as they are used to walking up and down the aisles, Eichinger added.
Albuquerque paramedics checked the baby girl when the plane landed while Lee Ann and husband Joseph talked with aviation police, who also interviewed the stewardess and some of the passengers who saw what happened. According to reports, the child had a black eye, but the parents said that it was caused by a dog.
The baby was returned to her parents after police determined that the mother’s behavior seemed to be an isolated case. The parents also didn’t get a citation and were allowed to continue traveling to their final destination.
