Vodafone Launches MiFi Mobile Broadband

Vodafone, the UK mobile service provider, has launched a portable wireless hotspot they are calling Mobile Wi-Fi, which is much like the MiFi devices released in the US. The new hotspot allows users to connected up to 5 mobile products to the internet wirelessly.

The new service is a portable battery-powered router that contains a mobile SIM card, which allows users to connect through the HSDPA or 3G networks where they are available and share the connection with other devices in the area. This makes it easier for users to connect to the internet. Vodafone says that the new device is capable of offering up to 7.2Mbps speeds under normal circumstances, while they claim the battery will last for 4 hours without needing to be charged.

A Vodafone official has been reported saying that, because Mobile Wi-Fi can run on battery or while plugged in, it is more flexible than a mobile dongle. Although they don’t think this will replace mobile dongles, he continued, the flexibility will be attractive to many customers.

Vodafone has revealed they will be offering the device in 3 data deals - all for 18-months. The service will cost £15 a month for 3GB of data, with an up front cost of £49 for the device. The next deal is for 4GB of data for £20 a month, with an initial £29 charge for the device, while a £25 a month contract will offer 5GB of data and the device for free. Vodafone is also offering a pay-as-you-go option for customers.

You seem to have negated the fact that 3 first launched the Huawei E5830 product in september 2009 and have been offering the “MIFI” service ever since.
