Carrentals.co.uk Reports 30% Higher Prices

According to a new report from Carrentals.co.uk, the award-winning online car hire comparison website, the price of hiring vehicles has risen an average 30% around the world this month in comparison to the same month last year. The site says that a lower availability of cars has been caused by cutbacks among rental companies, which were made after the recession.

The biggest rises have been found in Turkey, with a huge 76% increase; the US, with a 48% rise; and Croatia, with a 46% jump. Prices in Spain and France are also up 40% and 37% respectively. However, the price of rentals in Greece have actually fallen, but it’s still an expensive country to hire a car in due to the prices rises last year. The cheapest places, by far, were found to be Madeira and Portugal.

Carrentals.co.uk managing director Gareth Robinson said that car hire companies haven’t expanded their fleets, while old cars have been replaced, which is all due to banks around the world not being able to provide the funding needed. This means that prices have increased a lot, he continued, and it’s been noted that non-Euro countries have been hit the hardest.

Robinson also stressed that customers should book their car hire early, as figures show that those who booked in March for rentals in August have saved about £150 compared to travelers that waited until May. They also found that shopping around usually means getting the best price, he added, and this includes having a bigger selection of cars to choose from.
