Man asked to leave Tesco after visiting store with snake on arm
A man was asked to leave a Tesco in Newport after customers noticed that he was accompanied by a snake which was wrapped around his arm. The man, believed to be in his 20s, was approached by one bold customer who wanted to inquire about the snake, and found through a brief discussion that the dark-coloured reptile is fed mice as a part of his daily diet.
Ursula Berry, 72, from Pontfaen, Newport, told the BBC that when she first saw the man and his companion, she was sure that the snake had to be a fake. She said that once she got a closer look at the creature, she realised that it was indeed a living snake, and became terrified at the revelation. Ms Berry, who is a frequent visitor of the Tesco in Newport, said that it was shocked that a man could just walk into a supermarket with a live snake, and that she will not be a customer of that particular Tesco in the future.
A spokesperson for Tesco said that the man who entered the store with the snake was approached by staff once they were informed of the situation, and he was asked to leave the premises. The spokesperson went on to say that one cashier helped the man pay for his goods in the self-checkout aisle before he exited the store.
