Michael Jackson’s Doctor Didn’t Know CPR at time of Death

The courts and public have been shocked by some revelations to emerge from the case involving late Michael Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray. On the first day of the pretrial hearing, a testimony from the King of Pop’s bodyguard revealed that the doctor didn’t know CPR.

Considering he was the doctor of a legendary artist of entertainment, it’s unbelievable that bodyguard Faheem Muhammed says that cardiologist Murray asked if anyone knew CPR while the singer was dying in his mansion. CPR is a basic training procedure that anyone who has been through medical school should know, and since the doctor is a cardiologist, one would think that he would know how to restart a heart with the procedure.

Muhammed gave his testimony on Tuesday, saying that he a fellow guard Alberto Alvarez walked into the room to find Murray crouched beside Jackson’s motionless body, appearing not to know CPR. He said that they were shocked at the doctor. The defense attorney questioned if Murray was asking for help out of exhaustion from staying up all night, but Muhammed replied that the doc’s inquiry was as if he didn’t know how to administer the procedure. The bodyguard also said that he never actually saw Murray perform CPR on Jackson before the paramedics got there.

The prosecutor said that Murray’s use of CPR - using one hand while Jackson laid on a soft bed - was contrary to recommended techniques. Medical experts are also due to testify that the doctor did a number of things that extremely deviated from standard care, he added.

There is big lesson to be learned for celebrities that have personal bodyguards and physicians. Though something like this probably won’t happen again, it’s best to make sure that bodyguards know how to administer CPR - just in case their doctor is too incompetent.
