Ricky Gervais to Cameo in US’s of The Office

Ricky Gervais is set to make a cameo appearance in the US version of The Office on January 27, playing as his character David Brent. The comedian co-created the show with Stephen Merchant in the UK, which became hit and was remade in the US by NBC. This is the first time that he has played the role since 2003.

Last year, Ricky agreed to appear in the finale of the American series, and in the episode he will be seen talking with Michael Scott, who is played by Steve Carrell and is the equivalent of insufferable boss Brent. According to reports, NBC didn’t even know that the 49-year-old had been filming as Brent but were presently surprised. Apparently the actor did it for free so that his appearance was kept top secret and off paper.

Co-stars believe that the appearance will attract the highest number of viewers for the show ever. Craig Robinson, who plays Darryl Philbin in the show’s US version, confirmed at an LA event for BAFTA that he had heard Ricky was going to appear as Brent, which he called the dream episode. He thinks it would get the highest ratings of anything, he commented. They absolutely had to make it happen, he added, suggesting that getting Scott and Brent together would just be awesome.

These scenes were filmed in honor of this being the last series for Carrell, and Paul Lieberstein, who plays Toby Flenderson on the show, says that it’s a little nod to him and his final year. The episode is just the two bosses interacting and is a little more than, “if you blink, you’ll miss it.”
